Christmas is by far my favorite Holiday. Easter is my 2nd favorite! The birth of Christ is what the celebration is all about. I have heard some people say that the origin of Christmas is pagan, was the winter solstace, etc. Guess what..its Christmas now my friend and its all about Jesus!
Thats right, its as Christian a holiday as one could get!
Jesus is the reason for the season,a great catch phrase if you ask me cause it sums it all up!
Yes we can all get caught up in the commercial aspect, and some folks think its all about the gifts but we who read this know better, its about the food!
Lol..just kidding!
Its about Jesus!
And what can be wrong about a holiday where we celebrate our Great Reedemers birth!
Decorations, I see it as getting ready for the birth of the KING, who wouldn't want to make their house as fabulous as possible to recognize the Kings birth, King Jesus!
Christmas trees symbolize every year of our precious life here, we collect those ornaments year after year, keeping traditions passed down through the years such as Christmas carols and of course Santa gets to have his day, giving presents to those who are good, just as the 3 kings gave presents to Jesus of gold and incense and myrr..(spelling haha)
So to those who say its pagan..not anymore its for Jesus!
Read about how a great Saint used the Christmas tree ..from wikipedia,
"While the Christmas tree's pagan roots are generally accepted, there still are various legends of Christian origins for the tradition. Such legends often relate to Saint Boniface. Such as: Boniface, in the process of converting local pagans, cuts down Thor's Oak, a hallowed tree for the locals, and claims a fir tree growing in the Oak's roots to be a new symbol Jesus Christ for the converted locals. Francis Weisler argued that Christmas trees are “completely Christian in origin" and that "the Yule tree had no direct pagan connotation..." [2]
"The custom of erecting a Christmas tree can be traced to 16th century Northern Germany, though neither an inventor nor a single town can be identified as the sole origin for the tradition. The tradition spread rapidly throughout Germany and abroad. "It was not until the beginning of the nineteenth century, however, that it spread rapidly and grew into a general German custom, which was soon accepted also by the Slavic people of Eastern Europe…" [3] In the Cathedral of Strasbourg in 1539, the church record mentions the erection of a Christmas tree. In that period, the guilds started erecting Christmas trees in front of their guildhalls: Ingeborg Weber-Kellermann (Marburg professor of European ethnology) found a Bremen guild chronicle of 1570 which reports how a small fir was decorated with "apples, nuts, dates, pretzels and paper flowers" and erected in the guild-house, for the benefit of the guild members' children, who collected the dainties on Christmas Day.[4] Another early reference is from Basel, where the tailor apprentices carried around town a tree decorated with apples and cheese in 1597.
In some accounts, Martin Luther is credited with adding lights and decoration to fir branches traditionally hung from ceilings."
Being Catholic I might not agree with Martin Luther on many things but I give him a high five on the lights and decoration idea :)
In two words,
CHRISTMAS ROCKS
and I love it!
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Oh how I love you Miss Amy :p~ Christmas does "rock" and I too love it. I just don't like all the commercialization of it that seems to just expand each year. I see where some say it's "pagan" and such because what we call "christmas" isn't even in the bible. Actually, no holiday we traditionally celebrate are in the bible. Jesus wasn't born on Dec. 25, it is just a day they chose to celebrate the holiday on. The whole thing behind the concept is the birth of Jesus and that in itself is reason to celebrate. Jesus is the reason for "EVERY" season! May God richly bless you and your family during this wonderful time of year. st :P~
ReplyDeleteawww thanks so much Stacey :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Jesus is the reason for every season!
Thats an even better catch phrase to live by than Jesus is the reason for the season!
I will agree with you for sure the commercial aspect is much overdone and I cringe every time I hear wal marts ad saying "Christmas costs less at wal mart""
oh how wrong they are Christmas doesn't cost anything cause Christmas is priceless and its in our heart, Jesus is in our hearts and souls and that sure can't be bought at wal mart lol!
Big hugs to you dear friend,
Amy
